5-Day K’gari Safari Adventure

Day 1 - Pre-Night

Arrive in beautiful Noosa and check into Nomads Noosa Youth Resort. Please arrive before the 18:00 to attend the compulsory pre-tour briefing. This is where you meet your fellow travelers and learn more about your K’gari tour. Safety is paramount and this is when you will watch a video to learn about the do’s and don’ts, driving tips, and pre-departure information. All passengers are required to attend the briefing to be allowed to travel to the island the next day. After the briefing, it's time to pack your small backpack for your 3 days, so that you are all set for your early start the next morning!

Overnight - Nomads Noosa

Day 2 - K'gari Adventure

Please meet at Nomads Noosa reception by 06:30 to check in for the tour. The cars leave from Noosa nice and early around 07:00. After we get your luggage in free storage, you'll start your 1½ - 2 hour drive to Rainbow Beach. We stop here for fuel and ice and prepare the vehicle for the Island (let air out of the tyres, fuel up etc) in preparation for your K'gari Adventure. Then it's a short drive to the ferry, and 15 minutes later you are at Hook Point, the southern tip of the island. Depending on the weather and the tide, your guide will assess whether it is safe to travel on the beach or if we need to select an alternative route to our next destination. We will find a spot for lunch (typically sandwiches or wraps). Our planned destination for the afternoon varies, but it is usually Lake Mckenzie (Boorangoora), famous for its clear blue water and sandy beach and covering more than 150 hectares and five meters in depth. We then drive back through some amazing rainforest where we can see some of the island’s unique flora and hopefully spot some wildlife too! on the way to our campsite in the late afternoon.

Overnight - Camp (pre-setup 4-man tents, with bed, mattress, pillow and linen)

Day 3 - K'gari Adventure

Your second day means another early start so you can make the most of your time on the island! After breakfast, we drive up to stunning Eli Creek, the largest freshwater creek on the Eastern Coast of the Island, which carves its way through to the beach and pours 80 million litres of water a day into the Pacific Ocean. After spending some quality time here, we'll be heading up to the famous Maheno Shipwreck. The Maheno was driven ashore on K’gari during a cyclone in 1935 and provides you with some awesome photo opportunities. Next up, we continue north past the Coloured Sands, comprised of 72 different colors of sand. After a lunch stop and a break, we pass by Indian Head enroute to our final stop of the day: Champagne Pools. This is a popular swimming hole with the ocean crashing over the rocks into shallow sandy pools. After an action-packed day, we head back to our campsite.

Overnight - Camp

Day 4 & Post Night

After breakfast, we will travel to Lake Wabby, the deepest lake on the island (11.4 m). The walk to and from Lake Wabby is an adventure in itself, as you find yourself up close to nature and experience the beauty of Hammerstone Sandblow. We recommend packing closed shoes for this one as the sand gets hot in the heat of summer! After lunch, it's time to leave the island. Departure time is subject to tides, but usually around 13:00. After a brief stop at Rainbow Beach to fill up the cars and pump up the tyres, we then head back, arriving in Noosa anytime between 15:00 - 18:00 (subject to tides and weather conditions on the island). Everyone meets in the bar to hand back their sleeping bags and pick up their room keys. Then it’s time to catch up and have a party with your new friends in our KB’s bar! An amazing end to an amazing trip!
