Gain teaching experience and give back to local communities

If you want to increase access to education in communities around the world, join a teaching volunteer project with KILROY. You'll gain valuable experience and work alongside local teachers to improve English literacy and improve job prospects for your students.

Whether you're new to teaching or already have a qualification, our volunteer projects are the perfect opportunity for you to develop your skills while getting to know new cultures and places.

Accommodation, meals and arrival transfers are included in each of our projects, and activities are often an added bonus to help you make the most of your time in your chosen destination.

What to expect from volunteer teaching abroad programs

On a teaching volunteer program with KILROY, you'll be working in impoverished communities to help provide children from poorer backgrounds with access to education. It might be a rural community school designed to supplement public school education, or you could be rotating around different schools and working with a mix of young children, teenagers and young adults.

The size of the class might vary from one destination to another, but you'll meet students who are eager to learn, if perhaps a little shy at times.

Working side-by-side with students and teachers from different cultures, you'll develop a global awareness that will boost your career prospects. And it works both ways, as you share your own culture and world view with the people you meet.

Whichever teaching project you choose, you'll leave with invaluable real-life experience of teaching, lesson planning and classroom organisation.

Teaching gap years

If you want to spend time teaching English on your gap year, these projects are a great choice. The majority of our projects require a minimum commitment of two weeks, but you can spend up to nine weeks teaching English (depending on the destination).

Want to spend longer volunteering as a teacher during your gap year? Reach out to our team and we can make suitable arrangements. As gap year specialists, we can also combine your volunteer project with group tours and other travel experiences to help you make the most of your time abroad.
