Image of the Ford Falcon Station Wagon from Travellers Autobarn in Australia - KILROY

The Ford Falcon station wagon is the most rented and popular car among backpackers in Australia. It has all the comforts of driving a regular sized car with a large trunk where you can sleep on a mattress.

The size of the trunk of this Ford Falcon Station Wagon is why so many backpackers pick this model - you can sleep in it, bring your surfboard or a bike and still have room for your luggage. Another reason why the Ford Falcon Station Wagon model is so popular is, of course, the rental rate.

As a backpacker you'll have to make the choice on how to get around Australia and you'll find that the Ford Falcon Station Wagon costs about the same as travelling around the country by bus. So, only one question remains: which option do you prefer?

The Falcon Station Wagon carries up to five passengers but only sleeps two people inside the vehicle (mattress not included). A tent is included for sleeping an additional two people.

Please note. The high season for campervan rental in Australia runs from October to March. The earlier you book, the better the prices. When availability decreases, the campervans become more expensive. Don't wait too long to book!

Driving and sleeping in the Ford Falcon Station Wagon

The Ford Falcon holds up to five passengers when driving. Two in the front seats and three in the back. The trunk sleeps two people but the rental price also includes a camping tent for an additional two people. Which means essentially you can sleep four people with the standard backpacker setup. If you're a group of five people, you'll need to rent an extra tent.

With a 70-litre petrol tank the Ford Falcon station wagon can drive you 550 kilometres before it's time to refuel.

Prices

The rental price varies according to demand and season. You'll get the lowest price if you book your Ford Falcon Station Wagon well in advance when availability is high. It's also cheaper to travel during low season. On the other hand, if you book close to your departure date or book your camper for high season, you'll pay more. It's just like flight tickets!
