Image of a Chubby Campervan in Australia - KILROY

The Chubby campervan is one of the best budget options for two young backpackers on a road trip in Australia. The Chubby campervan has cool graphics on the exterior that set it apart from the rest of the campervans on the Aussie roads.

The Chubby campervan is ideal for two people. It has plenty of internal living space for dining and sleeping, as well as a built-in kitchenette in the back. The Chubby campervan also features funky LED internal lights and two USB chargers. It comes with a tropical ice box that will keep your ice much colder and lasting longer than the usual Esky (Australian cooler box), plus you save on campsite fees as it doesn't require electrical power to recharge.

The Chubby is fully equipped for travelling and living comfortably in the Australian outback, the city, or down at the beach. With plenty of storage for your personal items, all you need to throw in is your sense of adventure.

This basic backpacker campervan is similar in price when you compare the price of a bus pass including accommodation per person and throw in the extra transport you may need when the bus only drops you in the centre of town.

Please note. The high season for campervan rental in Australia runs from October to March. The earlier you book, the better the prices. When availability goes down, the campervans become more expensive. Don't wait too long to book!

Luggage can be stored underneath.

Kitchen facilities

At the very back of the campervan, when you open the back door, you will find the kitchenette with a stove and a sink. It's a classic campervan setup with all the necessities needed for outdoor cooking during a road trip in Australia. The kitchenette area is equipped with a sink, portable gas cooker, a small water tank, ice cooler box and storage space for pots and pans.

Rental Locations and one-way rental

There are six Travellers Autobarn rental centres in Australia: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Perth.

It is possible to book free one-way rentals between the rental centres on the East Coast (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns). A one-way rental fee applies for one-way journeys to and from Perth and Darwin (AUD $300-700).

Age restrictions

You must be 18 years of age (at the time of pickup) with a valid driver’s licence to rent a Travellers Autobarn campervan. No young driver fee is charged.

Rental costs

The rental price varies according to demand and season. You'll get the lowest price if you book your Chubby campervan well in advance when availability is high. It's also cheaper to travel during low season. On the other hand, if you book close to your departure date or book your camper for high season, you'll pay more. It's just like flight tickets!
