Belgrade is blessed with amazing and historic buildings, just waiting to be explored on a study or group trip.
Serbia's capital Belgrade is located in the northern part of the country. The city is split by the Danube river and the smaller Sava river. Belgrade can be divided into three areas with each of its own highlights. Zemun was once an independent city under the Austria-Hungary empire. Novi Belgrade is the modern part of the city where new buildings are rising and Stari Grad is the old town where the big Kalemegdan complex is located.
At the city center you will find “Good Hope Garden”, which is the zoo. It was built in 1936 and is one of Europe's oldest. St. Sava Church is an impressive building and a must-see for anyone visiting Belgrade. The church is the largest (Eastern European style) Orthodox church in the world.
There are excellent shopping opportunities in Belgrade which includes shopping malls and streets with specialty stores and brand stores. Also try some of the local markets - at the Sajam Bazaar you will find a large selection of clothing for little money.
Food and weather in Belgrade
The Serbs are particularly fond of meat, which is clearly reflected in the local menu cards. There is a large selection of international restaurants, including fast food chains. Authentic Serbian food is always served with bread, even though potatoes may be included in the dish.
Serbs love beer, and the selection is huge and counts both Serbian and well-known foreign brands.
The weather in Belgrade follows the seasons as we know it in northern Europe. Belgrade and Northern Serbia is generally milder than southern Serbia.
