St. Mary's Church is located on the market square and is today Kraków's parish church. The church is especially known for its famous altar, which was created by the Nuremberg sculptor Wit Stwosz between 1477 and 1489. The triptych altar is closed in the morning, and all that can be seen are 12 images from the life of the Virgin Mary. Every day at 12:00 PM, the two wings are opened, revealing a world-class work of art.
