Ojców National Park was created in 1956.The main aim of the park was the protection of Prądnik Valley with its caves, plant and animal life. The landscape is Jurassic limestone about 150 million years old creating favourable conditions for the development of caves and there are hundreds of them in the park. The most famous one is Łokietek Cave. The park also has deep canyons some up to 120m deep. There are 950 plant species and 1200 animal species, some of the most interesting are bats of which there are 19 species living in the Ojców region. In the park there are also architectural monuments such as Pieskowa Skała Palace and Ojców Castle ruins.
