Auschwitz & Birkenau

The concentration camp Auschwitz/Birkenau was the largest extermination camp of the Second World War and is situated some 60 km west of Cracow. Auschwitz I was established as a labour and concentration camp in 1940 as a result of the overcrowded prisons and camps. In March 1942, another death camp was established, Auschwitz II (Auschwitz-Birkenau). Approx. one million Jews and 150,000 others (mainly gypsies, war prisoners and other political opponents) are said to have lost their lives in this camp. The visit to Auschwitz takes about 3 hours and you will join a guided tour in both camps by an obligatory guide. If you are travelling in your own bus, you can visit the camp on the outward journey. Please note that visits to the museum by children under the age of 14 are not recommended. PLEASE NOTE: Visits to Auschwitz & Birkenau cannot be reserved until three months before the planned visit. Payment shall be made on the day of confirmation and cannot be refunded. Once the visit is reserved, it’s not possible to change the number of visitors or cancel the visit.
