Connemara & Galway - daytrip

North of Galway is Connemara, which is one of the most beautiful, atmospheric and magnificent areas in Ireland – a landscape with green meadows, blue lagoons and tall, sharp mountains. The area is also known for its unique wildlife; red deer and wild Connemara-ponies, for instance, can be found here. Along the road, and in the mountains, the locals live in small, whitewashed or more modern huts. The uncertain livelihood in this windblown and swampy land, close to the Atlantic, has made the locals a tough and strong folk. Some of them supplement their income by illegal distillation of brandy, called “poteen” (small pot or kettle) named after the Irish word poitiu. In addition to the guided drive in the beautiful landscape, where sheep have preferential rights over cars, you can choose between either a guided tour at the incredibly beautiful Kylemore Abbey, where you will see the gorgeous gardens and the gothic church, or you can get a cruise of an hour and a half on Killary fjord. Please note that the cruise only operates from April to October. There will also be time to stroll around Galway. The duration is approximately 13 hours.
