Belfast daytrip

Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. The location of the city is the reason for its major port and a considerable shipbuilding industry, including, amongst other things, the Harland & Wolff shipyard which built the legendary ship, Titanic.
Belfast is mostly known as the scene of the fights between its Catholic and Protestant populations, an internal conflict that caused many violent, bloody clashes and terror actions between the two religious groups. A conflict that indeed has affected Ireland’s history and the self-knowledge of Irishmen.
Fortunately, peace has become a reality between them in recent years. However, the city is still marked by the period of conflict.
On the drive to Belfast you will pass through beautiful nature, in rural surroundings, and while you lean back, the guide will tell you about the Irish country life, the history and Irish folklore. You will stop at different locations with historical meaning; St. Peters Church in Drogheda, Monasterboice and Proleek Dolmen for instance.
In Belfast, you will get some time on your own, where you can either buy something to eat or enjoy your packed lunches.
Then you will get a political/historic guided tour through the city, which will include, amongst other things, Falls and Shankill roads, the moorings and the shipyard where Titanic was built. Before heading back to Dublin you will also visit the Republican Museum.
You also have the opportunity to visit The Titanic Experience Belfast, but since this visit easily lasts an hour and a half, it would be necessary to shorten the guided city tour slightly. The visit has to be booked about 6 months before departure.
A ticket for The Titanic Experience will also provide access to the ship, SS Nomadic, and White Star Wessel. Visits here have to be booked in advance. The tours will last up to an hour, which will shorten your time.
The Titanic Experience Belfast Visitor Centre contains more than nine galleries, that will give you a multidimensional experience spanning over special effects, dark rides, full-scale reconstructions and innovative interactive features. There will be plenty of opportunity to explore Titanic’s history in a modern and insightful way.
You will get insight into everything from the conception of Titanic, in the beginning of 1990s, the structure and the launch, to the infamous maiden voyage and catastrophic sinking. Your journey goes even further than merely the sinking, since you will also explore the discovery of the wreck, as the story continues to present time with an undersea research center.
