London to Munich Your first stop

Ditch the long check-in times of the airport and travel by train from London to Munich to start your adventure.

Make your way to London St. Pancras to board the Eurostar to Brussels to switch to another train that will take you to Munich (total journey time around 8hrs, not including transfer time). Of course, there's always the option to spend a few days in Brussels, as this is a flexible itinerary - you call the shots!

To ease you into your semi-independent adventure, we've included three nights at a centrally located hostel in Munich*. Use this time to explore the city at leisure before the next leg of your journey.

And remember - this is a suggested itinerary. With your included Interrail pass, you can choose your route through Europe. If Germany and Munich don't appeal to you, we can help suggest an alternative route. But use this itinerary as a guide to what's possible.

*Option to upgrade room, choose a different property or extend your stay in the city.

Munich to Venice Canals and gondolas

When you're ready to leave Munich, take the highly scenic train journey to Venice. The journey time is around 7hrs and you'll have lovely vistas through the train window throughout.

Venice has to be one of Europe's most iconic cities, so make sure you spend a few days here exploring the historic buildings and canals on a traditional gondola.

On this flexible, independent itinerary, you're free to book your own accommodation and organise your own activities locally, though we're always here to help if you need us!

Italy to Greece slow travel

Now it's time to say goodbye to land and hello to the sea! You're about to travel the length of Italy by boat on a 33hr journey to Greece (included in your Greek Island Hopping Pass) - it's slow travel at its finest. Choose from airplane-style seating or hostel-style bunks as you peacefully ply the waters, enjoying the views from the windows and deck as you travel.

You'll arrive into Patras in Greece, from where you can take a 3hr train to Athens (included in your Greek Island Hopping Pass).

Do not miss out on the exceptional history this city has to offer! Spend a few nights in Athens and visit famous sites like the Acropolis, the ancient Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the National Archaeological Museum.

Greek Island Hopping off the beaten track

Greece is home to over 6,000 islands with 227 of those inhabited. With your ferry pass, you can take your pick of routes and visit the iconic islands, like Santorini and Mykonos. Or you can blaze a trail less trodden and visit quieter, less touristy islands.

The itinerary we recommend here does exactly that! So use this as a guide if you want to swap the tourist crowds for authentic Greek villages.

From Athens, take a 5.5hr ferry to Naxos. Naxos is far from the over-populated tourist islands yet still offers sandy beaches, small mountain villages, watersports, and a vibrant nightlife that isn’t over-saturated. Spend a few days here.

Then take the 2.5hr ferry to Amorgos. This delightful island offers isolated beaches, wild landscapes, and a slow Mediterranean pace of life that's perfect for unwinding. Tear yourself away when you can!

Next, take the 2.5hr ferry to Paros - one of the greenest islands in the Saronic Gulf. In addition to beaches, activities such as hiking and biking are common on Paros. When you've had enough of the outdoors, it's time to return to Athens by ferry for your trip back.

Athens to London via Paris

To return home, you'll need to follow the trail back in reverse. From Athens, take the train to Patras to board the 33hr ferry back to Venice.

But here's where you can mix things up - instead of travelling back through Germany, head to France instead. Take the 12.5hr train from Venice to Paris via Milan. If you want to include an overnight (or longer) stop in Milan, upgrade your Interrail pass to include more travel days.

Otherwise, spend a few nights in iconic city of Paris before taking the Eurostar back to London.
