Welcome to Panama and the start of your adventure where you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your first Spanish classroom of this four-week trip.
Alongside your regular Spanish classes you will get to see the most important historical marks of Panama and enjoy rooftop bars and local restaurants. You will also get to visit the Miraflores Visitor Centre to learn about the famous Panama Canal and see the huge ships pass through the locks. There will also be the opportunity to try out Latin dance classes with a local dance instructor.
Next up is a few days spent exploring the idyllic San Blas Island and getting to know a little about the indigenous Kuna people. There's a snorkel trip to a sunken ship included. Your days on San Blas won't have any formal Spanish classes, but your teacher will be on hand to provide information in Spanish and, if the group wants, organise games or tutoring sessions.
In week two you will travel from Panama City to Boquete on local buses. In the evening you will have an introduction to the Boquete school, its surroundings and the history of the area. The fresh climate in Boquete is great for studying and you'll make lots of progress in your Spanish learning here.
You can choose to stay at the school or go and live with a local host family for a week. There's a thrilling zip-lining experience included to enjoy Panama's rainforest from above and admire its magnificent beauty from 13 different canopy stations. Hiking, waterfalls, hot springs, a coffee tour, volcano Barú are attractions worth exploring while you're here too.
The following week you will travel via bus and boat from the highland town of Boquete to the Caribbean Island of Bocas del Toro. On Sunday, the catamaran tour with snorkeling will ease everybody into the Caribbean lifestyle. During the week, use your free time outside of Spanish classes to explore the many beaches and attractions around the islands in kayaks, bicycles or water taxis. A local dive school, a few steps away from our Spanish school, offers PADI courses for all levels if you want to learn to dive while you're here.
Your final stop is Costa Rica, and the non-touristy town of Turrialba. All of the Spanish that you've learned so far can be practised with the local “ticos”, a nickname for Costa Ricans. During the last day of classes on Friday, you can take a level test (levels A1 till C2) to see how far you've come in your Spanish learning. And at the final Happy Hour barbecue, certificates will be handed to all Travelling Classroom students with a fun chance to celebrate together.
Finish your Central America adventure with a rafting trip on the Pacuare. This excursion provides a thrilling ride down the Pacuare river surrounded by stunning natural beauty and offering exciting rapids to conquer. The campsite, located in the heart of the jungle, will provide an opportunity to learn about the rainforest and relax in a hammock before heading home.
