This itinerary is just a suggestion and can be customised to suit your unique travel plans. Make it longer, make it shorter. Add in the things you want to do. Get in touch with our travel experts to turn this itinerary into your dream trip across South America.

La Paz, Welcome to Bolivia

Your adventure starts in La Paz, the world's highest located capital. You'll be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hostel, where we've arranged a 3-day arrival package for a smooth start to your trip.

On your second day enjoy a trip to the Tiwanaku ruins, located about 1.5 hours from La Paz. The ancient city and culture of Tiwanaku is one of the most important on the American continent as it's believed that the civilisation were even more advanced in pottery, astronomy and math than the neighboring Incas.

La Paz to Buenos Aires, Through the Atacama desert

Next up is a 15-day group tour with G Adventures. You'll journey across the surreal landscapes of the Atacama Desert in Chile and the salt flats of Salar de Uyuni, traveling all the way from La Paz to Argentina's capital of Buenos Aires. Along the way there will be stops in the beautiful colonial city of Sucre in Bolivia and the city of Salta in Northern Argentina where you can try traditional empanadas saltenas and take an optional horse riding trip or head to Cafayate to explore the local vineyards.

Buenos Aires, City life and tango

Welcome to Argentina's bustling capital, Buenos Aires! We've included a 4-day stay in the city, which of course means that your accommodation is taken care of. You'll have plenty of time to explore the city independently, but you'll also take part in a guided tour around the main sights to get the most out of your Buenos Aires experience. And on your final evening you will also get to enjoy a local Tango show with a 3-course dinner and some drinks. Doesn't sound too bad, does it?

Mar del Plata, Time to relax

If you want to explore more of Argentina, we suggest you head to the city of Mar del Plata further south along the coast to enjoy some of those beach vibes. It takes approximately 5 hours by bus to travel from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata, so put on a podcast, sit back and let the scenery flash past you. This is a destination where locals tend to go, meaning that you'll get a real taste of how Argentinians spend their holidays.

Mar del Plata offers relaxed vibes, a beautiful beach and great nightlife - a nice break from the more active parts on your trip. Eat some delicious churros at the beach and if you're there during the right season, you might also be lucky enough to spot some whales!

*This is a suggested experience and not included in the package price.

Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro, The magical Iguassu Falls

After chilling at the beach for a few days, it's time to return to Buenos Aires and join a 9-day G Adventures tour that will take you all the way to Rio de Janeiro in neighbouring Brazil. You'll be travelling with a group of like-minded travellers, experiencing some of the most amazing nature and history on the way.

First up is a local flight from Buenos Aires to the border with Brazil where the magnificent Iguassu Falls are located. You'll have two full days to admire this breathtaking view. Then you'll jump on another flight to Sao Paulo and travel onwards to Paraty - a charming coastal town renowned for its colonial architecture. After two nights here, you will continue to the tropical island of Ilha Grande, where you will have free time to relax, snorkel and hike.

Then it's on to Rio.

Rio de Janeiro, Explore the city

Next you'll have the chance to explore some of Rio de Janeiro's main sights at your own pace: take the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain, go see the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue and chill at the Copacabana beach. We have included 2 nights in a hostel and a return flight home, but you can, of course, choose to extend your stay or continue your trip elsewhere.
