Welcome to Thailand and the start of your journey of self-discovery, self-development, and perhaps a full moon party to balance it all out.
You'll be met at the airport in Bangkok and transferred to the Elephant Refuge and Wildlife Centre in Hua Hin. As a volunteer at the elephant project, you will be taught everything you need to know about the care of these magnificent animals. You will work hands-on with the elephants, washing them, feeding them during the day, going out to collect food for them, walking with them into our beautiful lake to swim and cleaning their enclosure.
After two weeks (or longer if you prefer), you'll head back to Bangkok to meet up with your new travel buddies, joining a small-group adventure tour that will take you to the islands down south.
If you'd rather volunteer with children in a kindergarten, we can arrange that in Hua Hin as well. Just let us know.
Check out the lively bars and dance parties that line Kao San road in Bangkok. It's the perfect place to start your tour with fellow backpackers. There's also the chance to explore the city by bike, go for a street food crawl or relax with a Thai massage.
Then it's an overnight train to Surat Thani and onto Khao Sok National Park for outdoor adventure. The next stop is Koh Pha Ngan where you can relax by the pool or spend the night at a full moon party. There's also free time to explore the island's waterfalls and lagoons.
A ferry ride brings you to Koh Tao where you can relax on the beach during the day and head out on the famous Koh Tao Pub Crawl at night.
You've explored life above sea level, now it's time to explore below the surface. We've included a 5-day learn to dive course on Koh Tao island. Not only is it great fun while you're here, but you'll also get your PADI certificate for you to use whenever you travel again.
The days are a combination of diving and theory lessons, the occasional yoga practice and in the evenings you can hang out with your fellow divers. Not too shabby, eh?
Last stop on this amazing Thailand itinerary is Koh Samui. We've arranged an arrival package at our favourite hostel here, and what you'll do during your stay is entirely up to you. The first thing we recommend you do is rent a scooter and take a ride around the island.
End the day at The Jungle Club to enjoy a spectacular sunset. Once you're ready to leave Koh Samui (will you ever be?), you can fly back home, or if you're thirsty for more adventure, continue your trip to your next destination. Whatever you choose, we'll help you arrange it.
