Begin this journey by flying to Bangkok with a friendly arrival transfer to get you from the airport to your hostel. You’ll have some time to explore on your own, take in the sights and experience this bustling city firsthand. A HOT tip is taking the river boat express. “Bangkokians” use the river boat for commuting, but you can use it for exploration. On the express boat, you’re out in the open with the wind in your hair, the city rising in front of you all while seeing how people live along the river. The express river boat is fast yet relaxed, giving you the opportunity to become a part of the daily life. It’s also super cheap.
Later you'll meet up with your new travel crew to embark on a 10-day group adventure tour to Ho Chi Minh City. But first stop: Cambodia.
After a good night’s sleep it’s time to cross the border into Cambodia and arrive in Siem Reap. You’ll arrive in time to enjoy a delicious Khmer meal. Next morning get ready for the incredible temple complex of Angkor Wat. You could spend days here trying to see it all!
You and your travel buddies will be traveling on to Phnom Penh to learn about Cambodia's sombre history. You can add activities to learn more about what the people have gone through with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Prison and the Killing Fields. Or venture out to the Silver Pagoda or Royal Palace for a more peaceful experience.
Bring your swimming gear, because you'll be visiting some of the nicest beaches that Cambodia has to offer. You’ll travel to Sihanoukville and board a boat to your own private beach on Koh Rong island.
Next up is a homestay in Chambok Village where you’ll get to know the local people over a delicious Cambodian home cooked meal.
From Chombok in Cambodia, you’ll travel across the border into wonderful Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City (or 'HCMC' for short). You’ll have one final evening with your group, before saying your goodbyes to meet a new gang of travellers. Because there’s a new adventure waiting for you in Ho Chi Minh City, taking you all the way up the coast to Hanoi.
You'll have three days to enjoy HCMC at your own pace. You could visit the Cu Chi Tunnels or explore the Mekong Delta by boat, or sample the local street food on a motorbike tour. The choice is yours.
To get you from the south of Vietnam to the north, you've got a 16-day accommodation and transportation package taking you from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. You'll have time to enjoy Vietnam's best coastal towns, including Hoi An, Hué, Nha Trang and Dalat on the way to the capital. The transportation varies - some stretches might be by bus and some by train. This is a great way to explore Vietnam without the hassle of organising where to stay or how to get from A to B - that's all sorted for you!
Hanoi is a city that's young at heart and it’s crawling with students from all over Vietnam. When night falls, the small narrow streets become packed with colourful plastic chairs, especially around the street corners. That’s where the young people gather, eat sunflower seeds and drink local draft beer and chat while people-watching. Take a seat and join the pack. It’s the best way of making new local friends.
From Hanoi you’ll embark on a 5-day hilltribe village trek through Sapa, which we argue is one of the most beautiful areas in Vietnam. Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups, and each group has its own distinct colour and style of dress. You’ll be travelling by train to Sapa and get to visit several families in the Sapa Valley before returning to Hanoi.
If you’re not that interested in trekking, you could swap this for a relaxing cruise around Halong Bay. Just saying…
We’ve included flights from Hanoi to Chiang Mai to get you back to Thailand. But you could just as easily travel from Hanoi to Luang Prabang and continue the journey through Laos to get to Chiang Mai. If you decide to travel through Laos, we suggest that you visit the Saffron Café in Luang Prabang, where you’ll meet other backpackers. You should also grab some breakfast at Létranger Books, famous for their delicious breakfast.
In Chiang Mai you'll spend four days enjoying the north of Thailand. There's a bike tour around the city included, as well as a cooking class. The rest is up to you. Make sure you visit one of the busy night markets in the city where you can try all sorts of Thai food and stock up on souvenirs.
A short flight will take you south to the stunning beaches of Phuket. Spend as long as you like sunbathing, snorkelling or taking boat trips around the amazing karst island scenery.
We've included a flight back home to the UK, but if you’re planning on extending your stay in Thailand, there are several activities we can help you include. What about volunteering at a wildlife rescue with elephants? Or learning to dive at Koh Tao and experience an epic full moon party? The options are endless!
