Welcome to Sri Lanka and the start of your honeymoon adventure!
Upon your arrival at the Bandaranayke International Airport, you will be met by a friendly local representative and transferred to your hotel.
The remainder of the day is at leisure. Depending on your arrival time, you could explore the bustling Negombo Fish Market, visit the historic St. Mary's Church and Angurukaramulla Temple, take a boat trip on the Negombo Lagoon and Dutch Canal, or simply relax on the beach.
The following day you'll transfer to Sigiriya and check in to your hotel. Later in the day you'll enjoy a guided tour of the famous rock fortress.
Standing at 200-metres, Lion Rock is one of Sri Lanka's most impressive sights. Beautiful gardens lead you to the main entrance on the northern side of the rock. This entrance was designed in the form of a huge stone lion and the feet survive to this day, though the upper parts of the body have been destroyed.
Once upon a time, the western wall of Sigiriya was almost entirely covered by frescoes, while the Mirror Wall was so polished you could have seen your reflection on it.
You'll see all this and more as you explore the grounds and climb the steps up to the top of the rock for incredible views over the surrounding landscape.
Swap historic sights for wildlife encounters with a day of safari drives in Minneriya National Park.
The park consists of forests, grasslands and wetlands that are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish and butterflies. However, the park is best known for Asian elephants and the world's largest gathering of these creatures during the dry season when the reservoir dries up and exposes vegetation to feast on.
The following day you'll have the option of climbing Pidurangala Rock for either sunrise or sunset. Pidurangala is another enormous rock - the same height as Sigiriya - and was once an ancient Buddhist monastery. Today there stands a white temple near the main entrance housing various Buddhist and Hindu objects. It's a challenging climb to the top, but worth it for the incredible views towards Sigiriya.
Leaving Sigiriya behind, continue to Kandy. Despite being one of Sri Lanka's larger cities, Kandy is very picturesque with green-carpeted mountains as a backdrop and the Bogambara Lake at the heart of the city.
While in Kandy you'll visit the Dambulla Temple - a complex of caves and temples cut into the rock dating back to the 1st century BC. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area, but the main attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings of Gautama Buddha and his life. These incredible paintings and statues on the walls and ceiling emphasis the artistic talents of the ancient days.
The following day you'll have time in the morning to visit the Temple of the Tooth - a gleaming white complex houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Later in the afternoon visit the Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya.
Covering 147 acres of well-kept trees, flowers and pathways, the garden's history dates all the way back to the 14th century and is today home to more than 4,000 species of plants. Wander the bamboo forest and enjoy the sights and smells of colourful orchids. You can finish with a walk on the suspension bridge for a view of Mahaweli Lake.
The next morning you'll be transferred to Kandy train station for a scenic ride to Demodara. Sit back, relax and enjoy the views as the train winds its course through lush scenery.
The following day you'll explore the attractions of Ella, including Little Adam's Peak, the Ella Gap, the 9 Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls.
From Little Adam's Peak, on a clear day it's possible to see all the way to Hambantota Beach, located hundred of kilometres away. While from the Ella Gap, on a clear night you can see the subtle glow of the Great Basses light house situated on the southern coast of the country.
But Ella isn't only about natural beauty - there's manmade wonders here too, chiefly the 9 Arch Bridge, which stands over 99-feet tall. The bridge was built entirely of solid rocks, bricks and cement without using a single piece of steel back in 1921.
Departing Ella the next stop is Yala National Park. This park is the second largest in Sri Lanka and is famous for being home to the highest concentration of leopard in the world.
Hopefully you'll get to see one (or more!) on a jeep safari through the park this afternoon. The huge area of forest, grasslands and lagoons is also home to a wider variety of wildlife, including elephants and crocodiles. Two prominent pilgrim sites are also located within the park, including the ancient Buddhist monastery of Sithulpawwa and the ruins of Magul Maha Viharaya.
After nine days of wildlife encounters, ancient ruins and incredible views, it's time for some rest and relaxation on the beach.
Spend four nights completely at leisure in Ahangama. This laidback town on the southern coast is just the place to unwind with your partner. Take it easy on the palm-fringed beach or for something a little more active, take a surf lesson and learn to ride the waves.
This marks the end of your honeymoon so spend it how you wish! On day 14 you'll be transferred to the airport for your return flight home to the UK.
