Vancouver Start your winter working holiday

Welcome to Canada and the start of your Work and Ski Winter Gap Year! To give you a moment to relax after your flight (it's a 10hr flight after all!) and plan the remaining logistics of your working holiday, we've included five nights of hostel accommodation. You'll need at least two full weekdays in Vancouver to complete your arrival setups before continuing on to your resort or hotel to check-in to staff accommodation. For arrival setups this includes things like obtainingyour SIN/Canadian tax number, opening a Canadian bank account, and setting up a Canadian mobile phone. Canadian Ski Resort Time to get to work

Depending on the job interview process before arriving in Canada, you could be working in a variety of departments including retail, rentals, ski school, central reservations, lift/base operations and food and beverage, to name a few. All positions provide full training and offer great benefits including housing, competitive wages, staff discounts, free lift passes and invitations to countless social events and parties. The work contract will be for the entire winter season with start in Nov/Dec 2025 and end April/May 2026. The average salary is a minimum CAD $16 per hour, with some positions paying slightly more. What else you need to budget for this trip


As a requirement of the Canadian Working Holiday Visa under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, you need to provide proof of at least CAD $2,500 to cover initial expenses. This is roughly £1,500. 


You'll also need proof of funds to pay for a return ticket home. Alternatively, you could book a flexible return air ticket and show this on arrival into Canada. Let us know if you would prefer to book a return flight and we'll provide you with the best options.

Five nights gives you plenty of time to get over your jetlag, meet other program participants at the arrival events we host in Vancouver, book onward transport to your place of work. It also gives you a chance to explore all that Vancouver itself has to offer.

It's a fantastic city to explore, even in the winter. With a full day at your disposal, you could treat yourself to a Belgian waffles for breakfast at Cafe Medina before a refreshing walk in Stanley Park to enjoy the stunning views of the city, mountains and ocean. Just remember to wrap up warm!

If you can handle the cold, consider visiting the serene Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden in Chinatown, which is particularly beautiful when dusted with snow during the winter months. You could also take a shuttle to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. It's a magical experience during the winter when it's lit up.

In the evening, head to the vibrant neighbourhood of Yaletown, which has plenty of restaurants and bars.

While you're in Vancouver, book your bus travel to the resort where you'll be working for the next six months. Which resort depends on the job you're able to secure during the interview process. It could be Lake Louise, Silver Star, Sun Peaks Resort, Banff, Whistler or Jasper. Wherever you end up, it's going to be epic!

Canadian Ski Resort Time to get to work

All positions provide full training and offer great benefits including housing, competitive wages, staff discounts, free lift passes and invitations to countless social events and parties.

The work contract will be for the entire winter season with start in Nov/Dec 2025 and end April/May 2026. The average salary is a minimum CAD $16 per hour, with some positions paying slightly more.

All the resorts and hotels we work with provide subsidised staff accommodation. The style of accommodation varies at each location but all staff housing is shared and you can expect to pay around CAD $150-$200 per week.

You'll have a minimum of two days off per week to make the most of your season ski pass.

Enjoy six months in the snow. After your work contract ends, the possibilities are endless! You could use the warmer spring and summer months to explore more of Canada independently. Or you could join our summer work program to continue your working holiday. Of course, there's always the option to return home, but we say, STAY! And make the most of your visa.

British passport holders can spend up to two years living and working in Canada, so if you've loved your winter ski season, extend your visa and keep on rocking!
