The first stop on your round-the-world adventure is Hanoi in northern Vietnam and your introduction to Southeast Asia. It's the perfect springboard for exploring the coast of Vietnam down to Ho Chi Minh City and the lush Mekong Delta.
You could easily spend two to three weeks in Vietnam alone. But neighbouring Cambodia beckons with the spectacular Angkor Wat complex of ancient temples. You can continue your Asian adventure through Thailand, heading north to for hilltribe trekking in Chiang Mai, or heading south to enjoy the beaches and islands of Koh Tao and Phuket.
Once you've had your fill of Pad Thai, continue your journey to Singapore via Malaysia, stopping at the colourful Penang, the verdant Cameroon Highlands and the pulsating capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Your second flight on this trip departs from Singapore, so take a few days to explore the city. Don't miss the famous Gardens by the Bay with its towering structures that look like imaginary trees lifted straight out of the Avatar movie!
Singapore is also home to vibrant temples and religious complexes from a number of different cultures. And you'll also find a tempting street food scene, so stay inquisitive and sample some new cuisine.
After bidding Asia farewell, you land in Melbourne to start your next adventure Down Under. Melbourne is another city that could easily keep you entertained for a week or two with visits to the iconic St. Kilda fairground and the nearby 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road.
When you're ready, continue your journey north to Sydney where you can admire the iconic opera house and bridge or get active in the Blue Mountains. Your next departure point is Brisbane, so continue north along Australia's east coast to enjoy the stunning beaches of the Whitsundays and Byron Bay.
Once you've reached Brisbane, spend a few days making the most of the city. You could visit the open-air food market of Eat Street Northshore, stroll along the Brisbane Riverwalk or visit Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and get to know Australia’s famous furry icon.
When you're ready to bid Australia farewell, your next flight takes you across the water to Christchurch on the south island of New Zealand.
The charming town of Christchurch is your gateway to New Zealand's south island. From here you can head further south to Queenstown for a few days of adrenaline-inducing activities or more sedate cruising around the awe-inspiring fjordlands.
When you're ready for a change of scenery, take the ferry from Picton on the south island to Wellington on the north island. Windy Wellington might not have the best of climates, but the city is home to some excellent museums and a burgeoning food scene.
From Wellington you can head further into the semi-tropical north to explore the Jurassic-style thermal parks of Rotorua, the rushing waters of the Kaituna River and expansive Lake Taupo.
Auckland is your final stop in New Zealand. If you've got the time, you could head further northwest all the way to Cape Reinga or stay a little closer to the capital and explore the undeniably scenic Bay of Islands or the Bay of Plenty.
When you're ready to depart, your next flight takes you to the idyllic beaches of Fiji.
After all of that exploring, it's time for some good old fashioned R&R on the tropical beaches of Fiji. Choose to do as much or as little as you like. Pick an island and lounge around for a week or two. Or grab yourself an island-hopping pass and explore as many idyllic islands as you can.
Once you're feeling truly rested and revitalised, it's time to head to throw yourself into the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.
The glitzy, glamorous city of Los Angeles could keep you entertained for weeks. Here you can head to the hilltop landmark of Griffith Observatory for epic sunset views, eat your way around the Grand Central Market and enjoy the fairground games at Santa Monica Pier.
With its location on the Pacific Coast, there's plenty of beachside fun to be had in LA. You could learn to surf or simply relax on Venice Beach - the choice is yours.
But as your departure flight is from San Francisco, take this opportunity to explore more of California. And the best way to do that is to hire a vehicle and hit the road! With your own four wheels you could explore Death Valley and Yosemite National Park. You could even cross over into the state of Nevada and spend a few days under the bright city lights of Las Vegas.
Your epic round-the-world adventure ends in San Francisco. Here you can wander the waterfront community at Fisherman’s Wharf, explore the depths of the infamous Alcatraz Island prison, embrace the colourful culture and cuisine of Chinatown and admire the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
