Itinerary

Surf & Spanish - Light Pack

Weekly Schedule & Activities

This is an example itinerary for a week's stay at the surf camp.

Day 1

Arriving in Puerto Escondido, México. From the airport or any bus station where you arrive, you can take one of the taxis waiting outside to Punta Zicatela. Our camp is easy to find and once you have arrived you will be able to check-in and start the surf camp adventure. Today you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the nearby ocean, or simply spend your time relaxing at the camp and mingle with like minded people.

Day 2

The best surfing in Punta Zicatela is in the morning and late afternoon, because the wind usually picks up for a few hours during the day. Start the day around 07:00 and enjoy a light breakfast, and at 08:00 we start with the first lesson. You will be assigned to your instructor and divided into groups depending on your level of surfing (max. 2 students for one Surf instructor). Once at the beach the class will start with an equipment safety introduction and then we will start working on paddling and pop-ups. These are the basics of surfing a wave. After 2.5 hours our surf instructors will drive you back to the camp or school, where lunch is served! After lunch you will have an orientation class with us, in order to welcome you to the camp and give you more information about Puerto, activities, rules and recommendations to make sure you get the most out of your stay. The rest of the day, find out more about your surroundings. Maybe you want to go snorkeling, take a trip to the national park, go horse-riding on the beach or soak up the lush sun at the virgin beaches.

Day 3

Early start with a light breakfast, surf and brunch. You will really start to feel your heavy arm muscles, but the best thing is to keep going. Borrow a surfboard for the rest of the day and get more practice in paddling and trying to stand up alone on smaller waves. In case you want to have a break from the waves, relax for a few hours or use this time for having a chat with the local Mexican people. This event is usually organized for one hour, talking half the time will be in English and the other half in Spanish without any teacher present. This is ment as a chance for you to practice your Spanish. In case you don't have any Spanish knowledge don't worry, take a few private lessons in the afternoon, and then practice what you have learnt with the cheerful locals. At night you can have dinner with your new friends in one of the fantastic restaurants on the beach. This is indeed paradise!

Day 4

Early start with a light breakfast and then surf lesson. By now you are feeling a bit more comfortable with the board and the waves. After coming back from the waves and having lunch, practice the rhythm of Latin music and learn the basics of Salsa dancing. If you haven’t got enough of salsa you can also listen to a live band in one of the night clubs in the evening or just relax in the open air cinema with the fantastic surroundings of the beach and the waves.

Day 5

Have breakfast followed by a surf lesson where you go back to practicing how to catch small waves and then enjoy your lunch once back at the camp. There are lots of things to do around the corner. You can participate in our cultural program and learn a pre-Hispanic dance or learn more Spanish! For relaxing enjoy the Yoga during the sunset and have a massage in a tropical and quiet area. It is feels amazing to get pampered after getting sore muscles from all the surfing. In the evening you can book a trip to the lagoon to watch the bioluminescence cast lights all over the water, amazing! Food never tastes better than after a long day of activities.

Day 6

Breakfast, surf lessons, sun, fun and lunch. Every day in the water is different. Conditions change and you develop and learn more and more. After spending the morning at the beach you can take part in our Mexican cooking classes, go sky diving or just enjoy the beach and sun. If you still have energy, join us for a game of Volleyball on the beach while seeing the most beautiful sunset.

Day 7

Today you can really tell how much you have learned this week, paddling a bit faster and already standing up on the board on your own catching small waves. You will have the last two surf lessons for this week, one in the morning and the other one in the afternoon. Breakfast, early surf, brunch and at 16:00 your surf instructor will pick you up and drive you to where the waves are. After 2.5 hours our surf instructor will drive you back to the camp or if you want you can also stay on the beach and enjoy the wonderful sunset.

Day 8

This is the last day at the Surf Camp. Enjoy your early breakfast and your lunch. You can take advantage of our excursions with other students, like to go fishing and catch your own fish or see turtles and dolphins, but you can of course hang around at the camp and enjoy your free time.
